Swot chart for “Looking for Eric”
S- Strengths
1: There is a football star included in the film so that will most likely raise awareness to the public.
2: Pedigree of director. The director is well known and has won awards for some of his productions which may encourage more of the public to view “Looking for Eric”.
3: Britishness: A huge amount of the films showed in the UK are made by America or other countries. If I was a member of the audience would find it more interesting to see a film based in England made by England.
4: Humour. Films which contain humour always draw in more of the public because humour is for the masses.
Weaknesses
1: Gritty and lack of glamour. There are no attractive Hollywood stars with white teeth and perfect bodies, the cast for this film are just a bunch average everyday people who make it more realistic but at the same time makes it less appealing to some of the public.
2: Looks like a documentary. It does have the feel of a documentary to it which may put of some members of the public who were thinking about watching it.
3: Will it appeal to women? Most women are very open minded so I feel that it won’t put of too many women. However I do agree that this is directed at men and football fans mainly.
Opportunities
1: Eric Cantona. Eric makes a huge impact on how many people will pay to watch the film because he is a famous footballer which should bring in allot of the football fans.
2: Manchester United. Eric plays/ played for this club which will make the Man Utd fans want to see more of him which may encourage them going to the cinema to see “Looking for Eric”.
3: Cannes film festival is also a brilliant way to advertise/ show your film which will hopefully then make the views spread the word to others about how good the film was.
Threats
1: Eric Cantona and Football. I feel that the film may be stereotyped with football which in this case could lose a lot of the public who were thinking about whatching.
2: 44 inch chest is a film that is released in cinemas on the same day.
